|---|---|---|---|
| The Allegheny Valley Herbcrafters was a small group of individuals who shared a love and passion for herbs. As an effort to further their interest and appreciation for the use of herbs, this group on April 24, 1985 chose to organize formally and adopted a new name, Herbal Thymes Club. The Herbal Thymes first public endeavor was as an exhibitor at the Saxonburg Arts Festival. In the early 1990's, at the request of the Saxonburg Library Board, the Club undertook the planting of a Shakespearean Garden. The Fragrance Garden at Roebling Park, the Kitchen Garden at the Burtner House, and assuming the maintenance of an herb garden at Cooper Cabin were efforts that soon followed. In 2001, the club added a Biblical Garden beside Heide Hall and St. Paul Lutheran Church. | |||
| Members have continued to participate in the September Saxonburg Arts Festival with herbal crafts, books, baked goods, dried flowers, and fresh herbs. An Herbal Children's Program has been offered in the summer at the Saxonburg Library and the Butler Library. Since 1990, an Annual Plant Sale has been held in May at Heide Hall, Sarver. The Club has sponsored herbal trips both within and outside the state and scheduled many fine speakers for members. |
